This is an
incredible set, privately commissioned from a number of
French "by appointment only" silversmiths by a French
aristocratic family and in excellent condition, although the
original chest could use a light refinishing to restore it
to its original luster.
This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of French history.
It is not often that a large set of this quality becomes available. It
has been meticulously collected over an extended period of
time during the late 1800s by the Family. Each piece bears the
manufacturer's hallmarks (which I have not been able
to identify - common with 19th century French manufacturer's
hallmarks) in
addition to the French Government's Head of the Minerva - 1
Hallmark, certifying a minimum of 950 sterling silver. This set is of exceptional quality and
craftsmanship
and is comparable to sets produced by Puiforcat, Odiot, or
Christofle (check the weights and
measures below) and includes the following - all weights and
