François-Alphonse Debain operating from 140 rue du Temple, registered his mark "a rowboat with two little men" on 15 January 1847 and renewed it on 19 July 1851. The mark was struck off on 27 May 1864.  His son Alphonse-Edouard Debain succeeded him using the same symbol in his partnership with Louis-Frédéric Flamant, working as Debain & Flamant.  Alphonse-Edouard Debain’s son, Alphonse Debain the third generation of family silversmiths, became the successor to silversmith Philippe Berthier in 1883 and used Berthier’s symbol "a woodcock" to adapt his own mark to "AD and a woodcock" for "Alphonse Debain".
